PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a 2,6-tetralin dimethyl alcohol that is a novel tetralin derivative for which a utilization as a resin raw-material, liquid crystal composition, polymer modifier, pharmaceutical intermediate or the like may be considered; and a production process therefor.SOLUTION: 2,6-tetralin dimethyl alcohol (1) is produced by contact-reduction-reacting 2,6-tetralin dicarboxylic carboxylic acid dialkyl ester, in the presence of a solvent and a copper-chromium-based hydrogenation catalyst, with hydrogen.SELECTED DRAWING: None
