PURPOSE: To obtain the title high-purity compound which is a medicine having excellent cholagogic action of cholecyst or hepatopathy in high yield at a low cost without requiring troublesome purifying operation, by reacting p- methoxypropenylbenzene with sulfur in the presence of a specific amide derivative.
CONSTITUTION: p-Methoxypropenylbenzene is reacted with sulfur in an amount of 3W10g atoms based on 1 mol above-mentioned compound in the presence of an amide derivative expressed by the formula (R1 and R2 are 1W4C alkyl or together with N form piperidino, 1-pyrrolidino or morpholino; R3 is 1W4C alkyl), e.g., dimethylacetamide, diethylpropionamide or 1-acetylmorpholine, at 100W180°C to provide a granular substance, which is then recrystallized, etc., with a solvent, such as CCl4, to readily and economically afford a hepatic function activator cholagogue anethole trithione, which is a high-purity yellowish brown needle-like crystal medicine, i.e. the aimed compound.
