PURPOSE: To provide an abnormality detecting device which can rapidly and surely detect abnormality when a vehicular steering control device is brought into a mechanically locked state.
CONSTITUTION: Steering angle control of a dirigible road wheel WL being a control object is carried out via a steering mechanism SM in accordance with drive of a motor MT. During this period, vehicle speed VS is detected by a vehicle speed detecting means SS and a reference current Ki is determined by a reference current adjusting means SC in compliance with a specified characteristic according to the speed VS. Whether or not a driving current to be supplied to the motor MT is not less than the reference current Ki is judged by a current judging means CD. Further, whether or not a state wherein the driving current is judged to be not less than the reference current Ki continued for a reference time Kt or more is judged by a time judging means TD, and if affirmative, the steering control device is judged abnormal by an abnormality judging means AD to output an abnormality signal.
