To provide an acoustic signal retrieving apparatus capable of accurately performing collating processing of a melody obtained by recording and a melody registered in a data base.
For an acoustic signal obtained by recording, in a predetermined interval unit, a plurality of feature words in which a feature of the acoustic signal in the interval unit is expressed with a feature pattern and a weight value, are generated. The plurality of feature words are combined to make one set, and collating processing of the feature word within one set and a registered feature word registered in a related information data base (a) are performed from a heading feature word in one set, and a plurality of candidate records in which a non-match degree is lower than a predetermined degree are extracted (b), and related information corresponding to one candidate record which is narrowed down, is extracted. The non-matching degree is calculated by considering weighting on the number of non-matching bits of the feature patterns.
