Abstract:
To provide an activated carbon suitable for removing infinitesimal metals and a method for manufacturing the same.
The activated carbon has a specific surface area of ≥500 m2/g and contains ≥1.0 milliequivalent/g of total acidic functional groups and ≥0.2 milliequivalent/g of acidic functional groups derived from a carboxylic acid. The activated carbon can be manufactured preferably by activating a carbonaceous material with an acidic gas, treating the resulting activated carbon with an oxidizing agent. and carrying out washing and drying or by activating a carbonaceous material and an alkali metal hydroxide at 400-630°C and carrying out washing and drying.
