Title:
ACTIVE CATHODE AND ITS PRODUCTION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3712220
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active cathode showing an enough reducing effect on the overpotential of hydrogen even when a current with high current density is applied, by incorporating an Ni alloy and fluorocarbon resin fine particles into a coating layer of the electrode active material.
SOLUTION: The active cathode is produced by forming an Ni alloy layer containing fluorocarbon resin particles on a conductive base body by using a plating bath having dispersion of the fluorocarbon resin emulsion. As the Ni alloy layer, Ni-Sn alloy and Ni-Sn-Zn alloy can be used. The alloy layer is formed, for example. by using a plating bath containing nickel chloride, stannous chloride, zinc chloride, etc., with addition of fluorocarbon resin dispersion. As the fluorocarbon resin, polytetrafluoroethylene and the like is preferably used. The presence of the fluorocarbon resin particles influences the wettability of the cathode surface, which makes leaving of hydrogen gas from the electrode surface easy. As a result the obtd. electrode shows large activity.
