Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain an additive capable of increasing the strength and water resistance of cured asphalt and easy to control the curing rate, useful as a binder of road pavement and waterproofing agent by using a specific prepolymer and a silane coupling agent as essential components.
CONSTITUTION: This additive is composed of, as indispensable components, (A) a water-soluble prepolymer, capable of polymerizing to give a resin, e.g. a condensation product of a monomer (for example the compound of formula I{R1 is H, a 1-9C alkyl; R2 is H, OH; AO1 is a 2-3C oxyalkylene; Z1 is H, a group of formula SO3X1 [X is H, a mono or divalent melt, ammonium, (substituted) alkyl ammonium{9147/28}; n1 is 0-100}, or a monomer of the formula II (R3 is R1; Z2 is Z1; AO2 is AO1; n2 is n1) with an aldehyde compound and (B) a silane coupling agent. The amount of component B is preferably 0.001-10 pts.wt. per 100 pts.wt. of component A.
