PURPOSE: To provide an adhesive composition for shoes consisting of an adhesive material and a specified urethane prepolymer and exhibiting high initial and final bonding strengths and excellent resistance to yellowing.
CONSTITUTION: A polyisocyanate (a) containing at least three active isocyanate groups in one molecule obtained by biuret reaction of 1, 4-tetramethylene diisocyanate, etc. is made to react with an OH group-containing compd. (b) containing one alcoholic primary hydroxyl group and one alcoholic secondary or phenolic hydroxyl group in one molecule and having a molecular weight of 160 or less in such amounts that the equiv. ratio between the isocyanate and the hydroxyl groups may be (1W10):1. Then an aromatic diisocyanate such as 1, 4- diisocyanatobenzene is made to react with the reaction product in such amounts that the equiv. ratio between the isocyanate group in (c) and the hydroxyl group in (b) may be (1W5):1 to produce a urethane prepolymer with terminal isocyanate groups. 50W1wt% urethane prepolymer is blended with 50W99wt% adhesive material selected from among rubber and urethane prepolymer having terminal hydroxyl groups.
