PURPOSE: To vary a transfer gap and to improve picture quality by providing an adjusting mechanism which adjusts the vertical position of a form guide.
CONSTITUTION: The form guide 4 is a guide for conveying a form to which a toner image is transferred to a fixing device and moved up and down by rotating an adjusting screw 6 to move up and down even a bottom plate 2a, so that the form guide 2 rotates around a fulcrum 2b. The transfer gap l is determined by the gap between the end part of the guide surface on the side of a photosensitive drum 1 and the photosensitive drum 1, but is varied through the rotation of the form guide 2. When the transfer gap l is set to about 1.6mm by said adjustment, the best solid-black picture quality is obtained and when an original is copied so that half-tones and thin lines are reproduced excellently, the adjusting screw 6 is elevated to adjust the transfer gap to about 0.3mm. Consequently, the picture quality of a copying machine is improved.
