Title:
ANTIBACTERIAL/ANTISEPTIC AGENT AND COSMETIC CONTAINING EXTRACT OF JACKFRUIT
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3501855
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain the subject new antibacterial and antiseptic agent composed of a jackfruit extract containing artocarpin as an essential component, having growth suppressing activity against various kinds of bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and excellent in safety against a human or an animal.
CONSTITUTION: An extract containing artocarpin as an essential compound is obtained by extracting jackfruit with a solvent selected from water, a lower alcohol, a polyol, a lower alkyl ketone, a lower alkyl ether and an alkyl ester of acetic acid. The objective antibacterial and antiseptic agent is composed of preferably ≥200ppm of the jackfruit extract. The extraction is preferably performed at normal temperature or under heating. Specifically, the extract is obtained, for instance, by extracting 50g of crushed jackfruit wood with 500ml of ethyl acetate at 75°C for 3hr under stirring, and treating the extract by filtration, concentration under reduced pressure and the removal of ethyl acetate, in serial order.
