To provide an air conditioner for a vehicle relaxed in the generation of noise caused by flow of refrigerant and allowing a space for a silencer to be effectively used.
The silencer 21 is arranged so that the center axis thereof is vertically arranged, and provided with a casing 9 having an upper chamber 12, an intermediate chamber 13 and a lower chamber 14, an inlet pipe 17, which is connected to the upper chamber 12 and in which the refrigerant flows along the inner peripheral surface of the casing 9, and a capillary 23 for returning the lubricating oil staying on a partition plate 10 to an inlet of a compressor 2. With this structure, when the refrigerant comprising the lubricating oil flows from the inlet pipe 17 into the upper chamber 12 inside the casing 9 and flows along the inner peripheral surface, the lubricating oil having viscosity and specific gravity larger than these of the refrigerant is separated, deposited in the bottom of the upper chamber 12, and returned to the inlet of the compressor 2.
