To effectively constrain an occupant, and to control an expansion trajectory of an airbag bag element by contacting with a space between the airbag bag element and the occupant when the airbag apparatus is expanded.
An occupant constraint apparatus 50 (airbag apparatus) is provided in part of a sheet assembly 40 formed to inflate to impose constraint to the occupant of the vehicle. The airbag bag element 60 has an inflatable portion 61 and at least one non-inflatable portion 62. An inflator supplying a gas for inflating the inflatable portion 61 is attached to the airbag bag element 60. The airbag bag element includes a tethering 80 having a first end and a second fixture end connected with the airbag bag element 60. The airbag bag element 60 has at least one opening 69 in at least one of the non-inflatable portions 62. Part 69 of the tethering passes through the opening 62.
