Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide an alkaline storage battery having the capability of displaying the excellent characteristics of a hydrogen storage alloy stably for a long term by strongly bonding fine powder material of metal or the like on the surface of hydrogen storage alloy powder.
CONSTITUTION: An alkaline storage battery is constituted of a positive electrode mainly composed of a metal oxide, a negative electrode mainly composed of a hydrogen storage alloy, together with a separator and an alkaline electrolyte. For the negative electrode, mechanical energy such as a compression force and an abrasion and cracking force is applied between mother particles of hydrogen storage alloy powder and sister particles of a smaller grain size but higher ductility, thereby roughening the surface of each mother particle and rolling the sister particles to cover the roughened surface for the purpose of surface treatment.
