Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:A compound shown by formula I (R1 and R2 are 1-12C straight- chain branched alkyl).
EXAMPLE: 4-(4'-n-Pentyloxy-biphenyl)-carboxylic acid α-(4-methylphenyl)ethyl ester.
USE: An additive to a liquid crystal composition capable of extremely improving responsibility of liquid crystal.
PREPARATION: A compound shown by formula II is reacted with a compound shown by formula III in an inert organic solvent such as toluene under heating to give a compound shown by formula I. The compound shown by formula II is preferably used in the form of an acid halide and, in this case, the reaction can be carried out in the presence of a dehydrohalogenating agent such as pyridine.
