Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a novel compound useful as a photopolymerization initiator, a flame-retardant, etc., and having a high shelf stability.
CONSTITUTION: The compound of formula I [wherein R1 is formula II (wherein R' is 1-6C alkyl, 1-6C alkoxy, 1-6C alkylthio or halogen; and n is 0-3) or a (substituted)naphthyl residue; R2 is 1-6C alkyl; and R3 is R1], e.g. monomethyl monophenyl phenylphosphonite is obtained by transesterifying a dialkyl arylphosphonite of formula III with a phenol of the formula: HOR3 while releasing an alcohol of the formula: HOR2 in the absence of a catalyst.
