To provide an inexpensive and maintenance-free alternating voltage regulator, even if an input voltage and a load power of a commercial power supply are sharply fluctuated, capable of suppressing the output voltage within a predetermined range.
This alternating voltage regulator is provided with: a main transformer 1 having an input terminal 7 connected to a commercial power supply, an output terminal 8 connected to one of the input terminal 7, a primary coil connected to the other of the input terminal 7 and a secondary coil having a plurality of tap terminals t3-t7 and connected to the other of the input terminal; a switching circuit 5 for connecting selected one out of the plurality of tap terminals t3-t7 to one of the output terminal; an output voltage detection circuit 2 for detecting a voltage value of the output terminal 8 of the main transformer 1; and a control circuit comparing the output value of the output voltage detection circuit 2 with a reference voltage Vref, and drivingly controlling the switching circuit 5 to make the output voltage of the main transformer 1 within the predetermined range, and regulate the output voltage of the main transformer 1.
