Title:
ALUMINUM ALLOY FOR MARINE PROPELLER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS54107816
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a light-weight Al alloy for a marine propeller with superior castability, workability and corrosion fatigue resistance in seawater by adding a specific amt. of Mg to Al or further adding Cr and Be.

CONSTITUTION: The Al alloy contains Mg; 5.6W8.0%, Mn<0.2%, Si<0.2%, Fe<0.2%, Zn<0.1%, Ti<0.1% and Cu<0.1%. It may further contain Cr; 0.05W 0.50% and/or Be; 0.02W0.20%. Since the addn. of Mg enhances the corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of the Al alloy, and the combined addn. of Cr and Be improves corrosion fatigue resistance to seawater, the alloy is suitable for use as a marine propeller material in place of high tensile brass.
