Abstract:

PURPOSE: To measure the concentrations of tri-n-butyl phosphate and di-n-butyl phosphate contained in a reprocessing solution in a purex process by gas chromatography.

CONSTITUTION: A sodium hydroxide is added. Thereby di-n-butyl phosphate combined with heavy metal ions is dissociated and the heavy metal ions are sedimented. A supernatant fluid of the sediment is collected and turned into a liquid phase of nitric/acid, and by using an organic solvent such as chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, n-hexane or the like, tri-n-butyl phosphate and the di-n- butyl phosphate are extracted in the solvent. Thus, execution of analysis by gas chromatography is enabled by the same technique as is used for ordinary organic substances.
