PURPOSE: To obtain a coating material which can impart antistatic properties to a surface of base material such as a CRT face panel and gives a coating film having high transparency and high hardness, by dissolving a mixture of a silicon alkoxide with a zirconium alkoxide in a specified ratio in an organic solvent.
CONSTITUTION: The title coating material is obtained by dissolving a silicon alkoxide of formula I (wherein R1WR4 are each 1W5C alkyl; m is an integer of 1 or greater) (e.g., tetramethyl silicate) and a zirconium alkoxide of formula II (wherein R5WR8 are each 1W5C alkyl; n is an integer of 1 or greater) (e. g., tetramethyl silicate) in an organic solvent so as to give a coating film in which the atomic ratio of Si to Zr is 90:10W99.95:0.05. When applied to the surface of a CRT(cathode ray tube), this coating material can prevent static buildup on said surface due to a high voltage change when power is turned on or off and it can form a transparent coating film having high hardness.
