NEW MATERIAL:A compound AIL-B of formula I (R is H or acyl).
USE: An antibiotic substance having antimicrobial and antitumor activity.
PREPARATION: A microorganism, belonging to the genus Streptomyces, and capable of producing AIL-B, particularly Y-32026 strain (FERM-P No.6313) is cultivated in a fermenter by the aerated spinner culture method, preferably at 27W30°C and 6W8pH to stop the cultivation when the production reaches the maximum. The culture fluid is then filtered and separated into wet microbial cells and culture filtrate. Both are then extracted respectively to give extracted solutions, which are together or separately concentrated. The concentration residue is then adsorbed on a silica gel column, and eluted with a suitable solvent, e.g. chloroform-methanol based solvent, while increasing slowly the polarity thereof with varied mixing ratio. The aimed AIL-B is obtained as a fraction eluting just after the elution of AIL.
