PURPOSE: To obtain new polypeptide useful for manufacturing a vaccine preparation which induces immunity against non-A non-B hepatitis and useful as an assay reagent for diagnosis of non-A non-B hepatitis.
CONSTITUTION: Non-A non-B hepatitis viral polypeptide comprising an antigen having an amino acid sequence having homology of at least 90% to an amino acid sequence shown in sequence data of non-A non-B hepatitis virus obtained by using viral nucleic acid from serum of human infected with non-A non-B hepatitis after blood transfusion as a starting material, or its antigenic fragment. The polypeptide is obtained by cloning or synthesizing a DNA sequence encoding the polypeptide, inserting the sequence into an expressing vector, thereafter transforming a host cell with the expressing vector and culturing the transformed substance.
