Abstract:
PURPOSE:To enable the calculation of the sectional shape of a wheel by projecting slit light instantaneously on the traveling wheel and subjecting the video signal thereof to an arithmetic processing. CONSTITUTION:A wheel detector 2 installed near rails 1 detects the traveling wheel 5 and sends a wheel entry signal to a controller 6. A slight light projecting device 3 emits flash light by receipt of the entry signal and projects the slit light on the wheel surface. An industrial video camera 4 photographs a slit light video 7 and outputs the video signal to a computer 8 for image processing after an A/D conversion. The computer 8 subjects the slit video data corresponding to the sectional shape of the wheel to the arithmetic processing such as slit video extraction and slit center line extraction and is capable of calculating the sectional shape of the wheel by taking the geometrical disposition of the slit light source 3, the wheel 5 and the camera 4 into consideration.
