PURPOSE: To calculate a threshold value regarding a peak frequency obtained by fast Fourier transforming a millimeter wave radar signal.
CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for measuring a vehicular gap from a peak frequency obtained by frequency-analyzing a millimeter wave signal comprises index detecting means 101 of a threshold value to detect the index of the threshold value existed in power corresponding to the peak frequency. A low-pass filter 102 for forming the threshold value under the control of the timing change of the index of the threshold value for the power change has a variable filter coefficient to obtain a cut-off frequency responsive to the traveling state of a vehicle. The filter 102 and peak frequency detecting means 105 detect the peak frequency having a power exceeding the threshold value of the filter 102.
