To provide an apparatus and a method for driving a stepping motor which can suppress the occurrence of a noise due to a motor drive and which can alleviate a load of processing to control via a microcomputer.
A camera unit 1 has a camera lens 10 which is lens-controlled, by the stepping motor 12 microstep-driven and a recorder 11 on a surface directed toward a subject side at photographing times. The unit 1 also has a motor control unit 13 for controlling the dividing number in the one period so that the product of the frequency of the drive signal of the motor 12 with the dividing number during one period of the signal becomes a fixed frequency for the total driving speed range of the motor. Thus, the motor 12 is driven via a motor driver 14, controlled and the sound level of the predetermined frequency signal is attenuated, for example, by a band elimination filter provided in the recorder 11.
