Abstract:
To provide efficient data migration between tiers in a data storage system having a slow tier and a fast tier.
A fast data storage device 106 comprises a reserve space. A processor 102 refers to a reserve space table stored in a memory 104. When access to data stored in a slow data storage device 108 becomes frequent and thus the data becomes hot data, the processor 102 causes the data to migrate to the reserve space on the fast data storage device 106, and maintains the hot data on the fast data storage device 106. The data migration is frequently unidirectional with data migrating from a slow tier to a fast tier, reducing overhead during normal operation.
