PURPOSE: To improve the water purifying capacity by making the surface of the filament constituting a three-dimensional reticular body and made of a thermoplastic resin hydrophilic to form an aquatic organism immobilizing material and immobilizing the organism on the hydrophilic part.
CONSTITUTION: Filaments made of thermoplastic resin are fused or bonded to constitute a three-dimensional reticular body, and at least the surface of the filament is made hydrophilic to constitute an aquatic organism immobilizing material. The aquatic organism capable of decomposing an org. contaminant is immobilized on the hydrophilic part of the material to constitute a water purifying material. For example, a thermoplastic resin is melted and extruded from a multifilament spinneret 1, and the discharged solid soln.-like yarn 2 is received by a roll 3 dipped in a cooling bath 4, and the revolving speed of the roll 3 is adjusted to form a three-dimensional reticular body 5 which is wound up by a receiving roll 6. The reticular body 5 is made hydrophilic and dipped in water to immobilize aquatic organisms.
