PURPOSE: To obtain an aqueous emulsion resin composition having high water- retainability and excellent coating performance, by polymerizing a specific amount of a styrenic monomer and an olefinic unsaturated monomer in an aqueous medium containing a water-soluble polymeric substance.
CONSTITUTION: The objective composition can be produced by polymerizing 20W50pts.(wt). of a styrenic monomer (e.g. styrene, α-methylstyrene, vinyltoluene, etc.) and 100pts. of other olefinic unsaturated monomer copolymerizable therewith (e.g. methyl acrylate, 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate, etc.) in an aqueous medium (e.g. water which may contain ≤50wt% methyl alcohol, etc.) containing 0.5W5pts. of a water-soluble polymeric substance (e.g. methylcellulose, hydroxyethylcellulose, etc.).
USE: Useful as an aqueous emulsion adhesive to give excellent processed surface condition in the laminating surface treatment of a printed matter.
