PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an aqueous resin excellent in curing characteristics, storage stability, luster retention properties, etc., by subjecting a polymer containing both a hydrolyzable silyl group and an acid group and a specific polysiloxane to condensation reaction, neutralizing the reaction product to give a resin and dispersing the resin into water.
SOLUTION: (A) A polymer containing both a hydrolyzable silyl group and an acid group and (B) a polysiloxane containing a hydroxyl group bonded to a silicon atom and/or a hydrolyzable group bonded to a silicone atom are subjected to condensation reaction. The reaction product is partially or completely neutralized with a basic compound to give a resin, which is dispersed or dissolved in water to give an aqueous resin excellent in strain resistance by raindrops, acid rain resistance, solvent resistance, chemical resistance and water resistance.
