Abstract:
PURPOSE: To discriminate whether data to be recorded is stored in an unrecorded area or not by discriminating data amount which is possible to be recorded in the unrecorded area as the number of frames.
CONSTITUTION: A high speed rotation of the cylinder of a tape T and a rotation head device 9a is performed, the final termination of the tape is detected and the tape is slightly rewound just after the detection. Subsequently, the tape is read till the final frame by a reproduction mode and the final frame Fp of an already recorded area is retrieved. Sub-code data including frame numbers is read in a system controller 4 via a DAT data processing part 8, a number Fp is recognized and the number of already recorded frames is discriminated. By subtracting the number FP from the total number of frames Fp which is possible to be recorded, the number of frames Fr which is possible to be recorded is calculated. Based on this, total data amount Dr which is possible to be recorded of the main code data of each track is calculated. This is displayed on a display device 11 linking with the controller 4. Thus, various kinds of controls can be performed by recognizing data amount Dr which is possible to be recorded in an unrecorded part.
