Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of treating a large amount of discarded PET at a low cost, and to provide a method of producing value-added products.
SOLUTION: The asphalt-modifying agent is prepared from discarded plastics consisting of polyethylene terephthalate containing ethylene terephthalate oligomer with the weight average molecular weight (Mw) of 650-1,100 as a major component. The preparation comprises hydrolysing the PET by heating the mixture of the PET and water under the vapor pressure at a heating temperature under the condition represented by the formula; lnt=-17.9+1.01×104/T (wherein t is the time required for the reaction (minute), T is the reaction temperature (K) and ln is natural logarithm).
