PURPOSE: To easily attain the multi-medium service by providing a format conversion means converting a transmission format between an ATM exchange and a line packet exchange.
CONSTITUTION: A broad band ATM exchange 1 applying exchange connection by cell form transmission format accommodates a narrow band terminal equipment 4. Moreover, a narrow band line packet exchange 2 applying exchange connection by a frame form transmission format accommodates the narrow band terminal equipment 4. Then a format conversion means 6 converting the transmission format is provided between the ATM exchange 1 and the line packet exchange 2. Since the format conversion means 6 is used to convert the format of information of the cell form into that of information of the frame form and vice versa between the line packet exchange 2 and the ATM exchange 1 respectively, the multi-medium service is more easily realized.
