PURPOSE: To provide the automatic answering video telephone set in which the line efficiency is enhanced and the operability is improved.

CONSTITUTION: This telephone set is provided with an automatic answering setting means 510 and a connection processing means 520. The automatic answering setting means 510 allows a transmission section 512 to send a voice line connection reject status with a reason code to the opposite party when a setting section 511 sets only a video image mode with respect to the voice line setup. Upon the receipt of the voice line connection reject status sent from the opposite party, a voice line connection section 521 of a connection processing means 520 is activated not to make connection of a voice line and when a discrimination section 522 discriminates the reason code and only the video image is discriminated, a data line connection section 523 sends a data line setup to the opposite party.
