PURPOSE: To clamp a workpiece with an optimum tightening force by selecting automatically tightening torque from a tightening torque program corresponding to an optimum tightening force for the size and the shape of the workpiece, and actuating a nut runner automatically on the basis of the selected torque.
CONSTITUTION: When a workpiece numeral signal E has been inputted from a workpiece numeral setting circuit F in a nut runner drive control device to a conversion circuit D of a workpiece numeral to tightening torque, a signal for a tightening torque amount corresponding to a workpiece is sent to a motor control circuit C. When this control circuit C has been inputted with a clamping instruction, output therefrom causes a nut runner 14 to turn in a normal direction and pressure in a pressure chamber 7 is augmented via a screw member 12, a plunger 11 and an oily agent. Consequently, a deformation part 6 deforms and a collet sleeve 4 tightens a workpiece. This tightening force is read out as a signal B with a tightening torque detector A and fed back to the motor control circuit C, thereby driving the nut runner 14 to a predetermined tightening torque level and enabling clamping the workpiece with a proper force.
