PURPOSE: To switch automatically the transmission speed in accordance with the master station device side without requiring the advance telephone communication of a clerk in charge, by switching the transmission speed with an automatic switching means provided in a slave station device to try the communication with the master station device and repeating this trial till the normal communication is possible.
CONSTITUTION: A device 1 as the master station device and a device 2 as the slave station device are connected by a communication line 3, and devices 1 and 2 are provided with main control parts 4 and 4', transmission speed switching mechanisms 6 and 6', and communication control parts 5 and 5' respectively. After the transmission speed is switched by the speed switching mechanism 6' of the device 2, the device 2 tries the communication with the device 1. Until the normal communication with the device 1 is possible, switching of the transmission speed and trial of communication are repeated in the device 2 side. By this repeating, the transmission speed of the side of the device 2 is allowed to follow that of the side of the device 1, and thus, the transmission speed is switched automatically to make manual switch operations unnecessary.
