PURPOSE: To obtain the automatic ticket examination device which removes troublesomeness and gives an open space feeling to passengers and is low in cost and inexpensive by eliminating a bar for adult detection.

CONSTITUTION: The automatic ticket examination device has a couple of automatic ticket examination device bodies (10 and 10) which are installed opposite each other across a ticket examination passage, an ultrasonic wave generation and detection means (S4) which is provided on the top exit side of at least one automatic ticket examination device body (1) and detects passengers in an adult detection area (A) of specific height on the passage entrance side, detection means (S1, S2, and S3) consisting of couples of projector photodetectors arranged on the passage internal surface side of the automatic ticket examination device bodies (10 and 10), and a child indicating lamp (12) which illuminates unless detection is performed in the adult detection area (A).
