PURPOSE: To shorten the tool transport time for each machine tool by storing general-purpose tools in a tool storage magazine of an M/C machine tool and storing special tools with a high reclamation/replacement frequency in a central tool storage unit.
CONSTITUTION: Special tool transport bed 52 is provided near the spindle head 30 of an M/C machine tool 1, special tool holders 55a... and further 54a... fed in the order of usage from a central tool storage unit by a feed tool transport unit 20c are stored in guide side plates 51a, 51b and are transported to a position corresponding to an oil hydraulic cylinder 59. When a general-purpose tool is to be used, the general-purpose tool fitted to a carrier 39 and fed from a tool storage magazine is fitted to a spindle head 30a via a spider 40. In case of a special tool, it is transported to the spider 40 from the holder 55a by an action of the cylinder 59, and after machining, it is reversely transported and returned to the holder 55a, and it is returned to the central tool storage unit by a return tool transport unit at this position. Accordingly, the tool transport time can be shortened.
