This automatic warehouse includes a rack and a receiving/shipping device that travels in the automatic warehouse along the rack. The receiving/shipping device includes: a position sensor; a travel control part; a column sensor for detecting a column of the rack; and a column position detection part for determining the column position by a signal of the column sensor both when the receiving/shipping device advances and when the receiving/shipping device retracts. The automatic warehouse further includes: a storage part for storing the obtained column position; and a conversion part for converting a position based on the column of the rack to an absolute position without depending on the column of the rack. The travel control part performs stop control so that the receiving/shipping device stops at the absolute position converted by the conversion part based on a signal from the position sensor.
