PURPOSE: To roast a food such as GIAOZ (fried dumpling stuffed with minced pork, etc.) having excellent taste and palatability in a short time, by placing a material on a roasting plate, roasting the part contacting with the roasting plate, steaming the part separated from the roasting plate with steam and further roasting the food.

CONSTITUTION: A roasting plate 2 is heated with a heating means 3, the surface is oiled, foods such as GIAOZ, fried noodle, etc., are arranged on the surface and the part of the food contacting with the roasting plate is roasted. The roasting plate 2 is covered with a cover 4 to form a closed roasting chamber 5 and steam is introduced into the chamber through a steam pipe 6 to steam the part separated from the roasting plate. Thereafter, the supply of steam is stopped and the roasting plate is heated to roast the foods. A food such as GIAOZ can be roasted with reduced heat quantity in a state of excellent palatability, taste and appearance.
