PURPOSE: To enable a machine to cut a contour in a high degree of freedom, by placing a workpiece on a table and providing an R-axis control device, which controls a band saw to be rotated about its edge point serving as the center, in addition to controlling the band saw in three axes of rotating-axis, X-axis and Y-axis.

CONSTITUTION: A machine, placing a workpiece 13 on a rotary table 14 and adapting the edge point of a band saw 1 to the work, controls rotation of servomotors 19, 22, 27 by using a numerical control unit 32. In this way, the machine, while performing a numerical control in directions of X-axis, Y-axis and rotary axis, performs a cutting motion of the band saw by a motor 6, cutting the work. Further for conversion or the like of the cutting direction, the machine, using the numerical control unit 32 to rotate a servomotor 28 while worms 9 and wheels 10, cuts the work in a curved line while the band saw 1, held by a roller guide 12, is controlled in an R-axis about the edge point of the saw 1 serving as the center. Accordingly, the machine enables a contour to be cut in a high degree of freedom.
