Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve polishing efficiency and life by employing a fixed abrasive grain method in which a whetting material layer containing super hard grains such as diamond, CBN, etc., is provided on the surface of a metallic ball core, for a medium used for the barrel polishing of ceramics, cemented carbide, etc.

CONSTITUTION: In the captioned medium, a whetting material layer containing super hard abrasive grains of diamond, CBN, etc., is provided on the surface of a ball core made of ceramic or metal such as iron, copper, aluminum, etc. That is, the medium can be obtained by granulating and coating a powder body containing a whetting material in which metal bond, resin bond, or vitrified bond are mixed with ceramic abrasive grains or CBN abrasive grains, on the surface of a ball core made of ceramic or metal such as iron, copper, aluminum, etc., using an adhesive solution, and by heating and sintering the product. As for the adhesive solutions, those having water soluble and adhesive properties such as PVA (polyvinyl alcohol), CMC (carboxymethyl cellulose), etc., are favorably used.
