PURPOSE: To obtain the titled brick excellent in slag resistance, heat resistance and structural spalling resistance by mixing specified amount of fine metallic magnesium particles with a refractory raw material consisting of MgO and/or CaO as main component, molding and calcining the mixture.
CONSTITUTION: 0.01W0.5pt.wt. metallic magnesium having ≤2mm particle diameter is added to 100pts.wt. refractory raw material (e.g. magnesia clinker and lime clinker) consisting of MgO and/or CaO as main component. Then a basic calcined refractory brick is obtained by kneading, molding and calcining the mixture. Thereby the reaction shown in the formula is caused at a time of calcination and fine cracks are uniformly introduced into the structure by volume expansion accompanied with this reaction. The fine cracks absorb thermal stress and contribute to improvement of thermal impact resistance. This obtained basic calcined refractory brick is preferably used as a lining material of various furnaces used in the fields of iron manufacture and steel manufacture, etc.
