Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain the amplification of signals so that these signals can reach a reception station at a power level enough for properly receiving a message sent while covering all the prescribed distance by attenuating optical signals transmitted by an optical fiber during transmission. SOLUTION: A bidirectional optical amplifier 6 is provided with a unidirectional optical amplifier unit having one amplification wavelength band, two input/ output ports corresponding to two optical signals at least while having opposite propagation directions and mutually different 1st and 2nd wavelengths included in the amplification wavelength band, and two 1st and 2nd wavelength selective photocouplers respectively having 1st and 2nd wavelength pass bands including 1st and 2nd wavelengths which are not mutually overlapped. Next, the amplification unit is connected between two opposite side nodes of light bridge circuit, the 1st and 2nd selective photocouplers exist at the node of bridge circuit, and the 1st and 2nd selective photocouplers are arranged symmetrically to the amplification unit and the input/output ports for optical signals.
