PURPOSE: To provide novel compds which have powerful selective herbicidal action as herbicides.
CONSTITUTION: The compd. of formula I [A1, A2 are N, C-X (X is H, halogen, alkyl, etc.); Q1, Q2 are O, S, NH, etc.; R is H, amino, hydroxyl, etc.; X1X2, Y1Y2 are H, halogen, etc., Z is formula II (R1 is II, alkyl, etc.), etc.]; for example, 2,6-bis-(4,6-dimethoxypyrimidine-2-yloxy)-benzaldehyde. The compd. is obtd. by bringing the novel hydroxy compd. of formula III into reaction with an oxidizing agent (dehydrogenating agent) in the presence of a diluent at need or bringing the benzene deriv. of formula IV (E1 is H, etc.) into reaction with the active azines of formula V and, in some cases, formula VI (G is a nuclephilic residue) in the presence of an acid receptor in some cases.
