Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the title copolymer having excellent physical properties with a high block efficiency, by polymerizing different monomers near the respective thermal decomposition temperatures using an organic peroxide polym erization initiator having two peroxy groups with different thermal decomposi tion temperatures. CONSTITUTION:A radically polymerizable monomer (mixture) is initially polymerized near a lower thermal decomposition temperature of an organic peroxide polymerization initiator having two peroxy groups with different thermal decomposition temperatures to provide a terminal peroxy group-containing polymer. A radically polymerizable monomer (mixture) different from the above-mentioned monomer is subsequently added to the reaction system and reacted near the higher thermal decomposition temperature of the afore-mentioned organic peroxide to afford the aimed copolymer consisting of two polymers bound to oxygen radicals formed by the decomposition of the above-mentioned peroxy groups. Furthermore, an organic peroxide having >=10 deg.C difference between the two thermal decomposition temperatures, such as di-tert-butyl peroxytrimethyl adipate, is preferred as the organic peroxide.
