To provide a bookrest in which a balance arm for supporting a book support plate is attached to a pole in a position of appropriate height, the balance arm is vertically turned to adjust the book support plate at an optimal height, is turned upward when not in use, and which allows easy reading in a lying posture.

The bookrest 1 includes: the book support plate 21 in which the balance arm 19 is attached to an attachment tool 15 turnable in the horizontal direction attached to a pole 5 standing on a base member 3 so that the height is adjustable and which is turnably attached to one end part of the balance arm 19 with prescribed force; a center support tool 24 for having the book support plate 21 support a book 2 at a central part of the book support plate 21; an end part-locking tool 27 for locking the book 2 so that its both end parts are turnable; a balance weight 28 for positioning the book support plate 21 locked to the other end part of the balance arm 19 at a prescribed height so that its position is adjustable; and an illumination lamp support arm 32 in which an illumination lamp 33 is attached to an end part that is attached to the pole 5 so that the height is adjustable and a projection quantity is adjustable.
