Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brake drum manufacturing method allowing a short cylindrical sliding portion component to be cast of a different quality metal in a state of being accurately positioned in a molding space and causing great reduction in the rate of the occurrence of defectives during manufacturing.
SOLUTION: A short cylindrical cast iron liner 31 is arranged in the molding space S between a recess 11 of a fixed mold 10 and an approximately cylindrical protrusion 21 of a movable mold 20. Herein, the short cylindrical liner 31 is held by a plurality of ribs 23 provided on the outer peripheral face of the protrusion 21, whereby the liner 31 is positioned within the molding space S in a state of its inner and outer peripheral faces being substantially separated from an recess inner peripheral face 11a of the fixed mold and from a protrusion outer peripheral face 21a of the movable mold. Then, a molten aluminum alloy is forcibly fitted into the molding space S for casting around the liner 31 to approximately form a brake drum.
