To provide a broadcast receiver that can provide output processing desired by each user on the basis of a priority attached to emergency information, when receiving the information.

The broadcast receiver always checks a receives signal through a tuner 8 during reproduction, checks a selection state when there is a warning signal in the emergency information (S2), and shifts to a mode check processing when receiving all the emergency information, independently of the strength of the warning signal; while when receiving part of the emergency information depending on the strength of the warning signal, the broadcast receiver checks the set level of a user (S3). When the mode is set to a 'discard away a weak signal' mode, the broadcast receiver discriminates whether or not the warning signal is strong (S7). The broadcast receiver disregards this warning signal, when the warning signal is weak. When the broadcast receiver is set to a 'also receiving even a weak signal' mode or the warning signal is strong, the broadcast receiver shifts to the mode check processing. In the mode check processing, the broadcast receiver decides which of data among image, sound, and character data are to be outputted according to the set mode (S4), and makes output of the decided data (S6).
