Abstract:
To prevent a thread from being cut before a moving knife and a fixed knife are mated with each other. A button sewing machine comprising a needle 410, a cloth pressing mechanism 110 for interposing a button and holding a workpiece and a cloth feeding mechanism 150 for moving the cloth pressing mechanism 110 is provided with a thread cutting device 200 according to the invention. The thread cutting device 200 pulls a thread close to a fixed knife 230 through a moving knife 220, and the moving knife 220 and the fixed knife 230 are mated with each other, thereby cutting the thread. Before the moving knife 220 is operated after the sewing is completed, the operation of the cloth feeding mechanism 150 is controlled to adjust the position of the button with respect to the fixed knife 230. Consequently, a distance between a knotted portion and a blade portion 231 is always set to be constant and a length of a residual thread obtained after the cutting is changed optionally.
