Abstract:

PURPOSE: To make it possible to maintain a good oxygen absorbing performance for a long time without degrading the energy density on a plate by providing the powder of antimony oxide in layers on the surface of an active material layer on a negative electrode.

CONSTITUTION: In the case of a cadmium negative electrode, an absorbing performance of oxygen gas, which is produced at a positive electrode in the case of overcharge, is improved by the presence of an antimony oxide on the surface of the plate, even though the quantity is small, the antimony oxide which acts as a catalyzer in the absorbing reaction of oxygen gas and also works as a repressor for the development of coarseness of particles of cadmium active material, which is produced by the repetition of charge and discharge. Moreover the decrease in a reaction area on a plate is prevented, so that the degradation of the performance can be prevented even if charge and discharge is repeated many times for a long period.
