PURPOSE: To enable the correct computation of photographed body distance by computing a conversion coefficient for converting the output value of a light receiving element into the photographed body distance, on the basis of the state of a camera, and computing the photographed body distance using this conversion coefficient.
CONSTITUTION: The camera body side is provided with such function as to input data from a distance measuring part 2 into a body control part 1 to compute lens driving quantity for focusing, and to drive a focus adjusting lens group LF by a focus adjusting lens group driving control part 3 for automatic focusing by applying a current to a motor M1. On the basis of the state of a camera around the time when a light receiving element receiving light from a photographed body outputs a signal corresponding to the received light, a conversion coefficient for converting the output value of the light receiving element into the photographed body distance is computed, and the photographed body distance is computed using this conversion coefficient. The photographed body distance can be thereby computed correctly even during zooming or the like.
